The proverbial table was set for Freshman in English Instructor Meghan Whitlock’s class to find a tasty selection of fiction and non-fiction this month.
In collaboration with Library Media Specialist (LMS) Chrissy Lewin, Whitlock’s freshman classes had time to explore different genres of books like historical fiction, memoir, and romance set up at tables covered in green tablecloths. Students also explored the school’s newest subscription to Sora, which has e-books, audiobooks, comics, and magazines available for downloads on Smartphones and the Chromebook. Manga, a genre of graphic novels that originated in Japan is incredibly popular among Wright Tech students.
During the event, Lewin and Whitlock shared approaches to exploring a potential book for independent reading. Students rotated tables, applying these techniques and ultimately selected a book of interest. Students could then find a comfortable chair and grab some hot chocolate, and enjoy some quiet time reading.
