Hundreds gather to showcase their rides, eat, and have some fun
The weather held out – save for a few sprinkles – for the 7th annual Wright Tech Car Show that featured a mix of muscle cars, classic autos, trucks, tractors, and even a few motorcycles.
The vehicles on display ringed the school’s campus at 120 Bridge Street, which was set up in zones for food trucks, vendors, raffle tables, and a Kids Zone. In the Kids Zone in the school’s courtyard, Wright Tech students did face painting for young attendees. They also got to race Matchbox cars down a special track constructed by the Carpentry Department.
Among the many in attendance was Justin Lowe, Ed.D, Interim Superintendent of Schools who enjoyed meeting with students. Lowe was a one-time principal at Wright Tech.
The Car Show is considered the school’s main fundraiser to support student activities. This year the Wright Tech Alumni Association and John Goldbeck, Automotive Department Head, coordinated the event which saw a large number of local sponsorship and volunteers from staff and students.
“We had over 260 cars, trucks and motorcycles at this years event and because of the Wright Tech students, staff and alumni’s hard work, we put our best foot forward to our community,” said Goldbeck. “During the day we spoke to many members of the alumni and they all made the same remarks: “what a great show”, “did you see the kids zone in the courtyard?”; “the courtyard looks fantastic”, “I wish they did this when I was in school”, and “Wow, this place has changed and it’s great.”
